Overview

Soluno is a smart energy management system that helps businesses maximise their solar and battery investments. It was built together by Voyanti and Octoco to solve a common problem: companies were investing in solar setups but not seeing the savings they expected.

Together, Voyanti and Octoco built Soluno from the ground up. This included fractional CTO support, full product development, and collaborative testing, all to create a scalable, market-ready solution.

The system connects to existing solar panels, batteries, and generators, using AI to automatically manage electricity usage and help businesses always draw power from the cheapest available source. It’s ideal for operations with 100kW or more of solar capacity and time-of-use electricity pricing.

Challenge

Many businesses with solar and battery systems weren’t seeing the returns they expected. Together, Voyanti and Octoco identified the key reasons why:

Wasted battery potential: Batteries were mostly used as backup, not for day-to-day cost savings.
Disconnected systems: Solar, batteries, and generators weren’t coordinated.
Complex pricing: Businesses didn’t know when to use grid vs battery power.
Loadshedding challenges: Post-outage peak pricing wasn’t accounted for.
Lack of visibility: Owners had no clear view of performance or savings opportunities.

Objective

We set out to create a solution that would:

Turn solar investments into meaningful cost savings.
Automate energy decisions with no manual switching or monitoring required.
Integrate all energy sources into one intelligent system.
Use data and AI to predict needs and prep for loadshedding or price spikes.

Solution

Octoco worked with Voyanti to build a complete energy management solution that makes smart decisions automatically:

The Soluno Gateway: A central control unit that connects all energy equipment and coordinates decisions automatically.
Smart automation: AI learns energy patterns and optimises charging/discharging based on real-time pricing.
Remote monitoring: A clean web dashboard shows savings, performance, and system status at a glance.
Loadshedding prep: The system pre-charges intelligently before outages and avoids peak-rate periods after them.

Implementation

Our team took a hands-on approach to make this vision a reality:

Shared leadership: Octoco’s Heinrich joined as a fractional CTO, working closely with the Voyanti team to shape the tech vision.
Co-building the platform: From the hardware and cloud infrastructure to the algorithms and dashboards, everything was developed in partnership.
Pilot testing: We ran real-world tests with select clients to validate performance and savings before scaling.
Tailored deployments: Each installation is customised to suit the client’s energy setup and usage patterns.
