InteliGro is a well-known and leading crop solutions company in South Africa with a holistic approach to agriculture.
The Problem
Decision-making based on real-time data has become a necessity in agriculture, and InteliGro identified supportive technology as a key driver in delivering first-class service to their clients. InteliGro wanted to modernise and streamline how farmers, advisors, and internal teams manage crop-related information, recommendations, and transactions. The key challenge was building a scalable system to accommodate multiple user types with distinct requirements. They required a more custom solution with software tailored to their specific workflows.
The Thinking
Octoco was tasked with developing a comprehensive digital ecosystem for information management. The goal was to create a suite of platforms that could be used by their farmers (customers), crop advisors (agents), and internal teams.
Our mission was to design and build a robust crop management solution that would:
- Support data-driven decision-making for farmers.
- Enable crop advisors to standardise and streamline recommendations.
- Equip the internal team with tools for user and content management.
- Provide reliable offline functionality for field-based crop advisors.
- Deliver educational resources and guidance for all users.
Our approach included:
- Discovery and design workshops to map out user journeys and functional requirements.
- Parallel development of all three platforms using agile methodology with iterative feedback loops.
- Seamless integration across platforms to ensure consistent data management and communication.
The Build
By designing three interconnected platforms - Intelekt 4U, Intelekt CA, and Intelekt TMS - we created integrated solutions, each tailored to meet the specific needs of its user group.
Intelekt 4U
for customers
A user-facing application that empowers farmers to manage their accounts, access critical information, and make data-driven decisions. Key features include:
- Comprehensive account management with access to statements, quotes, invoices, and delivery notes.
- Historical purchase insights to optimise future farming strategies.
- Personalised crop recommendations based on specific crops, soil conditions, and farming practices.
- Digital resource library, including practical tools like an online spray calculator.
- Streamlined product ordering process to reduce administrative overhead.
Intelekt CA
for crop advisors
A dedicated platform designed to help crop advisors work efficiently in the field and deliver consistent, high-quality recommendations:
- Offline capabilities for logging assessments, observations, and photos in areas with limited connectivity.
- Tools for recording samples, documenting field visits, and generating recommendations directly.
- Immediate access to price lists with the ability to send quotes to clients on-site.
- Integrated library of resources and guides to support field advisors.
- Available on both desktop and as a progressive web app for maximum flexibility.
Intelekt TMS
for internal use
An internal management system that allows Inteligro's team to oversee and support the entire ecosystem. This platform includes:
- Comprehensive user management and permission controls.
- Tools for uploading and updating farm profiles to maintain data currency.
- Centralised library management for publishing guides and informational content across platforms.
The Expertise
This project required a thorough analysis of business processes and internal operations to determine optimal system architecture. Delivering three interconnected, custom platforms - each tailored to a distinct user group, and including reliable offline functionality for field-based advisors - drew on Octoco's capability to design and build integrated software ecosystems around specific workflows.
The Result
The project has been successfully deployed and is now being used by InteliGro's customers, crop advisors, and internal teams, delivering:
- Enhanced decision-making capabilities for clients through access to actionable insights and historical data.
- Significant reduction in manual admin tasks for farmers and advisors.
